WAN optimization is a collection of techniques for increasing data-transfer efficiencies across wide area networks.

WAN can be optimized by these techniques:

Web Caching: Web Caching can be achieved by the use of proxy server.The proxy-server keeps  the frequently requested pages  in the cache , requested from the external web server.So,next time when the request again comes from the client, proxy server returns back the stored cached page and thus saves a lot of time.

Global Positioning System

GPS  or Global Positing System allows you to locate any position in the world by the use of satellite.GPS can help you to locate a friends address or your favourite restaurant near you or a movie cinema.GPS operates by the use of radio waves.

To understand GPS better it  can be divided into these three segments

Space Segment

The satellite should spaced such that any GPS receiver could receive a signal from atleast four of the above satellites.The satellites convey the satellite location,the time and date when the request was sent and information required by the GPS receiver.

Control Segment

This segment is responsible for checking the health of the satellite and monitoring its orbital information.The control stations constantly monitor the satellites and sends the report to the master control station.

In around 1980’s when computer came , we had operating systems like DOS and Unix which provided users with Character User Interface.The windows operating system came up with the Graphical User Interface and came with easy way of accessing programs & applications. This was the era of desktop based software.In 1990, Tim Burners Lee created the first browser and thus we entered the world of web.Web has evolved from the static sites to dynamic sites,the content management systems to SaaS(Software as a Service)  which is also referred to as on demand software.So a software wont consume your Desktop space and you would be able to run it on the web,if you are able to find the right online replacement.

Easy Way to Add IEEE References in Microsoft Word

Copy the attached  IEEE citation styles to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office10\Bibliography\Style folder if you are using Office 2003
Copy the attached  IEEE citation styles to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\Bibliography\Style folder if you are using Office 2007
Copy the attached  IEEE citation styles to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\Bibliography\Style folder if you are using Office 2010
 
Restart the Microsoft Word.
 
Go to References.Choose the IEEE style which you want.
To add Sources Click on manage sources.
To finally insert Bibliography after you have added all the sources then goto Bibliography->Insert Bibliography.
And then you are done!

3.CacheViewer:This addon is used to view the browser cache.Many media,audio and other files get stored in cache.Very useful tool to capture varied amount of data, including flash files etc.

4.British English Dictionary:It’s a plugin for firefox to install a dictionary for your usage.

There are commercial products like VMware available to support virtualization. But there are various Open Source tools available that give similar features to the commercial products.Virtualization has been like a revolution and has reduced the cost of the company greatly and virtualization is a part of cloud technology, that makes it a technology to watch out for.

KVM stands for kernel-based Virtual Machine,though not so widely used but now has gained some users.KVM can run both on Linux and Windows.Red Hat’s virtualization server is now based on KVM Hypervisor.

Panda Cloud Antivirus - First of its Kind

Recently Panda launched its Panda Cloud Antivirus(Beta).It has a nice interface and is easy to install and use.Rather than using your PC's processing power, this cloud-based app sends data about potentially malicious files and programs to Panda's servers for analysis. The approach is intended to take advantage of the latest signatures without the need for signature-database updates.So its a lite antivirus which doesnt take much of system's resources.
